Movember – The fight against prostate and testicular cancer

Movember: Growing a mustache for men's health

Not a typo, but an important motto: Movember – a combination of moustache and November . The aim of this international movement is to raise awareness of men's health – from the prevention and treatment of prostate and testicular cancer to issues such as depression and bipolar disorder.

This is how Movember works

Anyone wishing to participate should register on the official website. On November 1st, participants must shave their mustache clean and then let it grow until the end of the month. The fact that the mustache is noticeable and not to everyone's taste is actually an advantage: it becomes a conversation starter, providing an opportunity to discuss donations and the important topic of men's health.

Prostate cancer – symptoms, risks and treatments

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men and one of the leading causes of death. The prostate gland is located below the bladder and produces fluid for semen. Tumors develop when cells multiply uncontrollably.

Risk factors:

  • Old

  • Family history

Symptoms (often only noticeable at a late stage):

  • Increased urge to urinate

  • Pain or burning during urination

  • Erection problems

  • Blood in urine or semen

Important: Go for regular check-ups. Early diagnosis significantly increases the chances of recovery.

Testicular cancer – symptoms, risks and treatments

Testicular cancer is the most frequently diagnosed type of cancer in men between the ages of 25 and 45. Over 90% of tumors originate in the germ cells.

Risk factors:

  • Family history

  • Testicular retention (testicles not fully descended into the scrotum)

  • Presumably also genetic factors such as Down syndrome.

Possible symptoms:

  • Lump or swelling in the testicle

  • A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum

  • Pain in the lower abdomen or groin

  • Sudden fluid accumulation in the scrotum

The good news: Testicular cancer is very treatable if diagnosed early – through surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy. Again, it's important to see a doctor promptly.

Support Movember

The Movember movement was founded in Australia in 2003 and has since raised over €500 million in donations. Movember has been officially active in Germany since 2012.

This year, we at Mornin' Glory, together with partners such as ZipJet and Opel Bank, are supporting this important initiative.

Sign up at movember.org and join our team , The Mo Bro's Glory . Every contribution counts.
Share the information with family and friends – because it can happen to any man.

Conclusion: Stronger together for men's health

Whether with a mustache or clean-shaven – what's crucial is that we raise awareness of preventative care and health. A well-groomed appearance, achieved through men's wet razors, gentle shaving cream, sharp razor blades, or a men's grooming starter kit, also demonstrates that shaving and self-care go hand in hand.
